The Art of Noise has much still to offer and the hope of a reunion with the original line up remains.Along with 'Beat Box (Diversion One),' 'Moments in Love' is the keystone to the entire Art of Noise project. Their debut single Beat Box takes on a revitalised modern twist, likewise the techniques deployed on the chaotic From Hammersmith To Tokyo And Back. In Visible Silences and Instruments of Darkness are full of sampled delights and soaring harmonies. Other highlights include Moments in Love, that retains the mood of the original studio version with updated curiously understated live elements. This album documents the ambition and courage the band set out to realise. The recordings were mixed this year by Langan. They found that the 1986 concert had been recorded for FM radio broadcast and music journalist Ian Peel, who wrote the liner notes and had joined the band on the tour, tracked down the original multitrack master tapes to a vault in London. The album was made possible when the trio returned to Tokyo for live dates in 2017. On stage were Dudley, Langan, Jeczalik with Dave Bronze on bass, Simon Moreton on percussion, Paul Robinson on drums, and The Noisettes (Katie Humble, Pepe Lemer, and Linda Taylor) on vocals. Highlights include the guitar-riff focus of Peter Gunn, the Dada infused Paranoimia, and the first-ever release of a live rendition of Eye Of A Needle, a slow industrial funk work. It contains the complete concert from Tokyo’s Nihon Seinenkan. Noise in the City is a live album recorded during the bands 1986 Visible Silence tour, released 35 years after the band first played in Japan. Under the guise of the classically trained Anne Dudley, Fairlight guru JJ Jeczalik, producer/engineer Gary Langan along with Horn and Morley, they were pioneers at the helm of avant garde British sampling. Success was short lived but the importance of The Art of Noise remains. Along with a stellar line-up of sound engineers and producers, working at Horn’s Sarm West studios in London it should have gone onto new heights. Headed up by Trevor Horn and Paul Morley, it oversaw Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s rise and the influential Propaganda. All part of their ZTT label’s visionary ideal. A pioneering slice of romantic post rock ambient innovation. IN 1983 The Art of Noise released Into the Battle with the Art of Noise, which featured a 10-minute version of Moments in Love.
